ALAN support related to hurricane IDA

American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) offers support related to Hurricane IDA.

Ida is poised to make landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane, bringing with it life-threatening storm surge, flooding, wind, and potentially overtopped levees. 3 million + people live in the area where Ida is headed, and the region holds supply chain significance due to fuel production, East-West commerce (I-10), and exports (Mississippi River). I know you each recognize the possibility of serious detrimental impacts from this storm, especially due to the ongoing disruptions that supply chains continue to experience this year.

ALAN Operations Activities

Logistics Requests – ALAN will accept requests for logistics support from the non-profit community via our webforms, e-mail, phone calls, or any other way the non-profits can contact us. These requests become “Cases” which are posted on our website: https://www.alanaid.org/operations. Joe Tillman is supporting the coordination of solutions for these requests. If you or your members are able to provide support for these requests, please let us know. Offers in advance can be made here: https://www.alanaid.org/offerinkind/

Information Sharing – ALAN’s Supply Chain Intelligence Center is active and freely available for all. This interactive tool provides real-time and predictive weather conditions and includes mapping of shared infrastructure such as ports and airports. ALAN will also be monitoring for links and resources of significance to supply chain owners and operators such as evacuation orders, re-entry procedures, etc. Many of these links are below, and will also be posted on our website at: https://www.alanaid.org/operations/#1539173858292-2bc76504-589d. Julie Roberts is supporting the curation of these resources. If you are looking for specific information, she may be able to assist. Emilee Martichenko and Lori Lockman are supporting the distribution of these resources.

Food Shippers of America 2021 Annual Conference update

Food Shippers of America has always strived to deliver an extraordinary learning and networking experience at
each of our annual conference events.   We were hoping for the same at our 66th Annual Conference in Palm
Desert scheduled for February 28 through March 2, 2021.

Due to the uncertainty of the Coronavirus situation and in consideration of the health and wellbeing of all
conference attendees we have made the decision to cancel the 2021 event.  We spent many hours evaluating
alternatives including postponing the conference to a later date, conducting a virtual event, finding other
potential locations as well as a combination of these options.  Unfortunately, venue availability and timing
made postponing the event not practical and we felt a virtual event would not offer the robust networking
opportunity we all look forward to at the annual conference.  We are certainly disappointed as we had an
exciting agenda prepared and will miss not being able to spend time together learning, connecting and doing
business.

If you already registered for the 2021 conference, your conference and hotel registration is automatically
being cancelled and a full refund will be issued to the credit card originally used for payment.  You will
receive an email receipt confirming the refund and hotel cancellation. The JW Marriott has agreed to honor
the conference rate if you would still like to visit Palm Desert during the originally scheduled conference
timeframe. Please call them to rebook your reservation if you would like to take advantage of this offer.

If your company agreed to be a sponsor for the 2021 event you will be receiving a refund for all paid
sponsorship fees. If you would like to rollover your sponsorship to the 2022 conference please contact Eric
Missil at
 accountant@foodshippersofamerica.org.

The 2022 Food Shippers of America Annual Conference will take place February 20 – 22, 2022 in Orlando,
Florida at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes Resort.   More information on the 2022 event will be released this
coming Spring.

Please continue to take advantage of the industry information available on our website (www.foodshippersofamerica.org), in our eNewletter and bi-annual magazine as well as follow us on our LinkedIn page.

If you have any questions please contact Paul Newbourne, Executive Director, pnewbourne@foodshippersofamerica.org or 847-302-1496 Cell.

food shippers of america congratulates smartway transport partners

Food Shippers of America Congratulates SmartWay Transport Partners who are recipients of a US EPA 2020 SmartWay Excellence Award

Award Recipients Are Top Environmental Performers and Leaders for Freight Supply Chain Efficiency

Several of our members and member service providers were honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as true industry leaders in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency.  These companies represent the top performing, environmentally responsible SmartWay Partners that move more goods more miles with lower emissions and less energy.  Excellence Award recipients were announced at a virtual press event hosted by the EPA with its SmartWay Partners, key stakeholders and media in attendance.  The award recipients are listed below.

“EPA is pleased to honor these SmartWay Partners with a 2020 Excellence Award,” said Karl Simon, Director, EPA’s Transportation & Climate Division.  “These Awardee recipients continue to lead through these challenging times, working diligently to manufacture products, manage shipments and deliver to our families the goods and supplies we need each day, while contributing to a healthier, more sustainable future for our children.” This year’s Awardee list is a diverse group with about one-third first-time Awardees, about one-third which have received the award at least five times, and three Awardees in multiple categories.  This range of repeat and first-time Awardees demonstrates the competitive nature of this recognition – any company is only as good as its last year’s environmental performance data.  The Awardees are geographically diverse with at least one Awardee from all but one EPA Region, and six from Canada.

About SmartWay

EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership is a market-driven initiative that empowers businesses to move goods in the cleanest, most energy-efficient way possible to protect public health and reduce emissions. Demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility and freight efficiency through SmartWay provides for a more sustainable and competitive business environment.

Since 2004, SmartWay Partners have avoided emitting more than 134 million tons of harmful air pollution, while saving 280 million barrels of oil and $37.5 billion in fuel costs – equivalent to eliminating annual energy use in over 18 million homes. SmartWay partners also help protect clean and healthy air by significantly reducing pollution that contributes to smog, including fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.
